Zverev zaps Bruguera on eve of Paris start

Alexander Zverev has gone back to his roots with father Alexander Sr as his only coach after splitting with Sergi Bruguera.

The 52-year-old double Roland Garros winner had been with the German for more than 18 months but disappeared from the player box midway through the Madrid Masters this month.

Zverev, who missed the second half of last season after seriously damaging an ankle here in a semi-final against Rafael Nadal, finally shed light on the coaching divorce.

“It was always clear that he was part of my team because my father was not feeling well. We decided together, along with Sergi, to end our relationship just after Madrid,” he said..

“My father, Sergi and I do not share the same opinion about how should i approach my tennis, how I should play tennis after my injury.

“I had a different opinion.”

Zverev called his ex-coach :”a fantastic person who has helped me a lot for a year and a half, until the last Roland Garros, when my father was not there.

“I wish him the best for the future. I want to go my own way and be in this more familiar environment again.”
