Fifth seed Alexander Zverev revealed on Thursday he had considered dropping out of the Monte Carlo Masters with injury after taking a 6-4, 7-6(7) third-round loss to Belgian David Goffin.
The German went down in just under two hours to the 11th seed, with Zverev explaining his physical problem, a minor elbow fracture.
“For the circumstances, I think it was quite a good match from my side. A little bit upsetting that I didn’t end up winning the tiebreak.”
Goffin will play a surprise opponent in the Friday quarter-finals facing Brit Dan Evans, who knocked out world No. 1 Novak Djokovic 6-4, 7-5.
