Zverev returns to Miami semis for first time in six years

Alexander Zverev finished with a break of serve as the German reached a Miami Masters semi- final for the first time since 2018 with a 6-3, 7-5 defeat of Fabian Marozsan.

The fourth-seeded winner will play for the 17th time at this level in a Masters; he finished runner-up in Miami six years ago, losing to John Isner in the final.

Zverev ended with 20 winners and just 10 unforced errors in a victory lasting just under an hour and three-quarters.

Marozsan was warned for time-wasting on serve as he put up a fight against the seed.

“He tries to rush us top players,” Zverev said of the Hungarian. “We sometimes fell that we can manipulate the match in our favour.

“But against him that’s not possible.”

Zverev added: “I’m happy to be back in the semi-finals in a city I love.

“At this late stage it’s only the best in the world who are left… I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

The 24-year-old Marozsan has made his name here, upsetting Top 10 opponents Holger Rune and Alex de Minaur.

Zverev notched his 19th win of the season against five losses; he owns five career Masters 1000 titles, lifting his last at Cincinnati three years ago.
