WTA looking for Wuhan return in October

The WTA schedule for a return to tennis is expecting a return to Wuhan – the starting point of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a leaked social media report yesterday.

The schedule of events was posted by Belgian player Alison Van Uytvanck, and is believed to be correct.

It shows The Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open – set to start on October 19 – is one of the premier events.

The WTA is believed to be anxious to retain the China tournament as it gives the organisation revenue – along with several other Asian events at that tome pdf the year.

Once the French Open is concluded on October 11, tournaments are due to be staged in Beijing, Wuhan, Nanchang, Zhengzhou and Tokyo before the season climaxes with the WTA Finals in Shenzhen and the WTA Elite Trophy in Zhuhai.

Dates before the US (if it happens) and the French under threat include tournaments in Palermo and Charleston, starting August 3, and Washington on August 10.
