Woz heading back to AO on wildcard entry

Four years after retiring at Melbourne Park, former WTA No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki is returning to the Australian Open in January thanks to a wildcard awarded on Wednesday.

Open officials rolled out the welcome map for the mother of two who quit the game after her Aussie run of 2020 following her title at the evenue two years previously.

The 33-year-old who reached the top ranking in 2010 made a return to the Tour last summer, reaching the fourth round of the US Open with a loss to Coco Gauff.

The other six wild card entries went to local Australians.

No. 242 Wozniacki told a tournament podcast that she plans to bring along her two young children from the family home in Miami.

“I have so many wonderful memories of Melbourne, and of course winning the Australian Open is an all-time career highlight,” the Dane said.

“Melbourne’s one of my favourite cities in the world, and I can’t wait to share it with my family and my kids.”
