Wimbledon winner gets her ranking reward

Surprise Wimbledon winner Marketa Vondrousova on Monday started reaping her victory reqards with a ranking move into the WTA Top 10.

The Czech who crushed Ons Jabeur for the trophy at the weekend now stands tenth in the world, She is the sixth Czech since 2000 to enter the elite.

She now heads into the summer hardcourt season across the Atlantic in a strong position, with few points to defend from an injury-plagued 2022.

Iga Swiatek was set to lose her World No.1 spot again, but Aryna Sabalenka couldn’t take the chance, so the reign of Swiatek continues.

That may change in coming weeks as she only trails by 470 points, so a good run at one for the pre-US Open WTA events could see Sabalenka replace her.
