Players at this year’s Wimbledon championships are to be housed at the plush Park Plaza Hotel in central London with no one allowed to book private homes near the famous SW19 facility.
The London Daily Mail Park reported today the Park Plaza, just south of Westminster Bridge, has been block booked for three weeks. The hotel has 1,019 rooms.
And security will be -covid-tight’ with players ferried the seven miles from the hotel to Wimbledon in a fleet of buses and cars.
“It’s exciting, but we are not meant to talk about it,” a member of staff at the hotel told the newspaper of the impending arrival of the players.
Players will be booked in on a full-board basis by AELT officials and will not be allowed to leave the hotel to use local restaurants or to shop.
And there will be no ‘Nick Kyrgios’ visits to local pubs.
The hotel, built in 2010, has no major outdoor facilities, but it is understood that many of the function rooms will be turned into gyms and dining areas for players.
And players will be allowed to book one extra room for support staff at their own cost.
