US captain Mardy Fish claimed his team had a lack of passion after they were dumped out of the Davis Cup by Colombia on Sunday.

“You can see the passion for Davis Cup, playing for their country,” Fish said of the opposition.

“It’s infectious for them … These guys are giving fist pumps every other point. It’s impressive, and it’s something that I hope, as a captain, to strive for and get our players to do.”

Reilly Opelka and Jack Sock retired from the doubles match trailing 3-0 in the opening set against Juan-Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah to give the Colombians a 2-1 victory.

Frances Tiafoe had saltier beaten Nicolas Mejia 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (70 before Daniel Elhi Galan beat John Isner 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (5).

“I wish I could have helped my team more,” Isner said after the loss.

The victory saw them finish second behind Italy in Group E, but unable to grab one of the best runners-up spots.
