Cam Norrie earned the 200th match win of his ATP career on Thursday, dismissing Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4, 6-3 for a place in the quarter-finals of the Barcelona Open.
The 28-year-old Brit, twice a last-eight player in the Catalan capital, was pleased with his accomplishment on the clay of the Real Club de Tenis.
“It’s a big tournament with a lot of historic past champions, so I want to try and win,” he said. “My coach lives here so it makes it easy for him.
“Hopefully the sun stays out and I can go to the beach this afternoon.”
Norrie earned his victory on the showcourt named for 12-time champion Rafa Nadal, who lost on Wednesday’s second round to Alex de Minaur.
Norrie moves into a match with 13th seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
“I was really pleased with how I handled myself when serving for the first set,” Norrie said of his win over RBA.
“I was very solid. aggressive, and I felt like I was moving well.”
