The Sunday night showdown between Novak Djokovic and officialdom at the US Open will cost the Serb massively.
The world No. 1 who was defaulted in the first set of his fourth-round match with Pablo Carreno Busta will lose a total of USD 280,000.
The biggest chunk of change is the prize money which he will not receive as a result of his sanction – USD 250,000.
While that is goodly amount, it’s peanuts to a player with nearly USD 150 million in career off-court earnings.
In addition, Djokovic was fined USD 20,000 for skipping the mandatory post-match media conference and USD 10,000 for his actual infraction of accidentally drilling a lineswoman in the throat with a petulant ball swipe after losing serve.
