US Open will go ahead: New York Post

The USTA is close to announcing the US Open will go ahead, without fans, as planned from August 31, the New York Post has reported overnight.

The Post has also reported the Cincinnati pre Open event will also be moved to Flushing Meadows to be played the week before.

The USTA is awaiting approval from State health officials before officially announcing the event, possibly as early as tomorrow.

The Washington Citi Open is expected to go ahead on August 16, but there is no reprieve for the Rogers Cup in Canada.

The Western & Southern Open in Mason, Ohio will begin a week before the Open in Flushing Meadows to create a quarantined environment for three weeks, The Post reported.

The Winston Salem Open will not take place.

It is still unclear if many of the world’s top players will participate, with many already voicing concerns about the restrictive rules being imposed.

Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have said they are considering not playing because of reduced entourages and being forced to stay at hotels by the LaGuardia Airport while being banned from visiting Manhattan.
