Unstoppable Gauff rides momentum to 14th win

Coco Gauff appeared unstoppable on Tuesday, with the US Open champion winning her 14th match on the trot to advance at the WTA Beijing event.

The American teenager who has not lost since mid-August in Montreal, defeated Croat Petra Martic 7-5, 5-7, 7-6(2) to reach the third round.

Martic had a victory chance but was unable to hold serve, opening the door for her 19-year-old opponent playing in the Chinese capital  for the first time.

Victory took a marathon three hours, with Gauff coming out ahead in an opening set marred by seven service breaks.

Martic levelled before the newest Grand Slam champion finally prevailed in the three-setter.
