Tsitsipas makes winning start in Mallorca

Stefanos Tsitsipas won his third grass match out of five played this season, with the Greek advancing to the Mallorca quarter-finals over Ilya Ivashka 6-4, 6-4 on Wednesday.

The Greek second seed did not face a break point in the contest lasting for 83 minutes.

“Serve’s very important on these kinds of courts. I think I was managing the situations on my serve very well,” Tsitsipas said .

“After my first serve, I was really able to get behind the ball and pick the right spots. I. I was doing it very well. I was very dedicated to that.

“It was really good for me from start to finish.”

The win was the third this season for the ATP No. 6 over Ivashka in 2022 after similar success in Rotterdam and Barcelona.

The second seed behind Daniil Medvedev on the Spanish holiday island – home of Rafael Nadal – will aim for the semi-final when he takes on American Marcos Giron, who beat compatriot Mackenzie McDonald 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4.
