Stefanos Tsitsipas has a chance to repeat as ATP Stockholm champion as he plays a Sunday final at the event for the second time in his career.
The Greek who won the 2018 trophy at the Kungligahalle booked his a date with Dane Holger Rune with a 74-minute 6-2, 6-2 hammering of Finn Emil Ruusuvuori; Rune noted as a tempremental hothead, got past Australian Alex de Minaur 4-6, 7-6(1), 7-5.
Tsitsipas scored his 56th victory of the season to hold onto his ATP stats lead in that category and got through the week without losing a set.
“A great match from my side, I think I played very well,” Tsitsipas said.
“I was really focused,
“I was able to produce some really good tennis throughout the entire match, pretty much.
“I was there, I was very daring, I was really going for it, and it worked in my favour.”
The Greek who has qualified for next month’s eight-man ATP Finals in Turin will be competing in his seventh final of the season, standing alongsideNo. 1 Carlos Alcaraz.
Tsitsipas lost to Rune in the Roland Garros fourth round last spring.
“We are both big fighters,” he said of the final. “I’m going to try to give my best out there on the court.
“We have played plenty of times against each other on the practice court, and I’m looking forward to the battle.”
