An injury to Nick Kyrgios during a car theft incident at his Canberra home has been revealed as the reason the Australian will miss the French Open.
Agent Daniel Horsfall pulled back the curtains on a May 1 incident in which Kyrgios’ mother was confronted at the family home in Canberra by a gunman who stole the player’s Tesla.
During a confrontation with the robber, Kyrgios suffered an unspecified injury to his left foot.
Horsfall told Australian media that the problem pushed back the Kyrgios timetable for a return to tennis after a January knee procedure.
“It set him back about two-and-a-half weeks in terms of his loading schedule to get back on court for what we thought was going to be the Grand Slam,” Horsfall said.
“He couldn’t slide, couldn’t get on court because every time he put a shoe on it moved and it (an apparent wound) would re-open.”
Kyrgios had been due to compete in Paris on the clay he detests for the first time since 2017, when he won a single round..
He now looks like returning from June 12 on the grass of Stuttgart where he reached the semi-finals in 2022 against Andy Murray.
The stolen Tesla was recovered using an owner’s app while a 32-year-old man was arrested in Canberra for the robbery.
