Despite the dramas going on in his personal life No. 6 seed Alexander Zverev schooled American Next Gen player Alex Michelsen winning 6-2 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 to become the final player in to the last 16 of the Australian Open.
19 year old Michelsen decided to forego a Georgia college scholarship to turn pro.
There had been much criticism of the German being given top billing on Rod Laver Arena due to his highly publicised upcoming trial in Germany over an alleged assault of a former partner.
The court date has been set for May, during the French Open.
The only questions Zverev faced in English at press conferences after his previous two round wins were about the court case, prompting a stern response from the grand slam finalist.
This will be the German’s fifth time in the fourth round of the Australian Open, with Boris Becker the only other German to have done it more times in the Men’s singles of the Grand Slam of the Asia Pacific Region.
The No. 6 seed will meet Cameron Norrie in the fourth round after the Briton knocked out Norwegian Casper Ruud in four sets..
The winner of that match up will likely face Carlos Alcaraz in a crackerjack quarter final.
