Day two of the Australian Open saw six of the seven British players in the main draw play a match. 

Andy Murray (WC) defeated Nikoloz Basilashvili in five sets; 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, 65-77, 6-4.

Dan Evans (24) rolled David Goffin in an easy three sets; 6-4, 6-3, 6-0.

Heather Watson earned a win against higher ranked Mayar Sherif in three sets; 6-3, 5-7, 6-2.

But Britain’s two qualifiers; Harriet Dart and Liam Broady were both knocked out by the match favourites. Dart was crushed by Iga Swiatek (7) of Poland, and Broady was soundly defeated by fan favourite Australian Nick Kyrgios.

2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu, is yet to play 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens later today.

Murray plays Taro Daniel in round two.

Evans goes on to play the winner of Popyrin v Rinderknech.

Watson plays 29th seed Tamara Zidansek.
