World No. 30 Estonian Anett Kontaveit’s resurgence this season continued today as she won the Ostrava Open, beating fourth seed Maria Sakkari 6-2,7-5.
Kontaveit didn’t drop her serve in the final and fired a total of 26 winners past her Greek opponent who became her third consecutive top 20 victim on the WTA Tour.
On the way to the final she claimed the scalps of Olympic champion Belinda Bencic and the home crowd favourite Petra Kvitova without dropping a set.
This season Kontaveit has won 12 out of her last 13 matches losing only to Iga Swiatek in the US Open.
The 25 year old winner said after the match “I think I really started enjoying playing again, and I think that’s been the main key
I’m having a really good time on court and I’m having fun through the battles and the tough matches as well. I sort of started finding my way in Cleveland.”
She added “My new coach also has given me some new energy and new perspectives as well. I’m just feeling a little more comfortable and enjoying myself more.”
That coach is Dmitry Tursunov, who has previously worked with Aryna Sabalenka.
They started their collaboration on a trial basis during the summer.
During his professional career Tursunov reached a high of No.20 on the ATP tour and won seven ATP 250 titles.
