Dominic Thiem defeated qualifier Jack Sock 6-1, 6-3, 7-6(6) , with the Austrian who won the US Open this month keeping up a torrid pace as he successfully makes the quick switch to the clay.

The third-ranked Thiem is a serious title contender at Roland Garros after playing the last two finals here against 12-time champion Rafael Nadal.

He needed to save three set points in the third-set tiebreaker to assure his passage into the third round, completing the job a few moments later.

Thiem showed off his game against Jack Sock in his third Paris meeting with the American – though their previous pair of matches were played at the indoor Paris Bercy Masters 1000.

Thiem improved to 26-11 against qualifiers at the ATP level. Sock once cracked the ranking Top 10 but now stands 310 due to several seasons of injury.

Thiem is into the Paris third round for a fifth consecutive edition.
