Dominic Thiem could be aiming for a test-bed showing in December at the rich Abu Dhabi exhibition as the No. 8 puts the finishing touches on wrist injury rehab.

Austrian media report that the former US Open winner who has not played since June in Mallorca where he hurt his right wrist is hoping to check out his progress at the December 16-18 hit-and-giggle event.

“It’s just about getting matches at competition level before January,” he said. “But I wouldn’t expect so much from myself.”

Thiem’s schedule provisionally calls for his return to the Tour at the Doha ATP 250 in January – dependent on eventual COVID rules on quarantine put in place by the Australian Open.
