The Serena Williams fear factor off court has left WTA No. 1 Iga Swiatek feeling like an insecure kid again.
The top seed at the WTA Cincinnati Masters revealed she still feels socially intimidated by the 23-time Grand Slam champion due to retire after the US Open.
“It’s hard for me to make eye contact with Serena, there are always so many people surrounding her,” she said.
“I’m quite shy so around her I’m like a kid in kindergarten.”
Swiatek will have enough on her plate at the pre-US Open men’s and women’s event where she has won a single match in four attempts.
Williams will begin on Tuesday against Britain’s US Open winner Emma Raducanu.
