Unstoppable Iga Swiatek eased to her 29th straight win to open her stay at Roland Garros with a 6-2, 6-0 hammering of Ukrainian qualifier Lesia Tsurenko on Monday.
The 54-minute rout kept the Pole’s hot run alive; it is the longest on the WTA since 2013.
“I just want to keep going,” the world No. 1 winner said. “I’m aware that someday my streak may stop.
“Basically, I’m just working every day to be focused on my tennis, not on stats or numbers
“I’m just playing tennis and focusing on my game and being in a bubble. That’s going to help me be consistent.
“It’s what I’ve been doing the past weeks and I’m going to continue doing that here.”
2020 Roland Garros winner Swiatek pounded her opponent as she aims for a sixth title in a row after winning 1000-level titles at Doha, Indian Wells, Miami, and Rome along with Stutgart so far this season.
She ended with 20 winners and 13 unforced errors in the 54-minute rout.
Tursenko has done it tough so far at Grand Slams this season: in Australia she qualified into the main draw only to lose 6-1, 6-0 against then-WTA No. 1 Ash Barty.
