No. 7 seed Iga Swiatek had to bounce back from a slow start to see off Brit Harriet Dart 6-3, 6-0 on Rod Laver Arena on Tuesday.
“You could see that first few games were pretty tricky for me. With the sun, I know I got broken in my second service game,” Swiatek said.
“I’m pretty happy that I was patient, I found the rhythm throughout the match. That’s pretty positive.”
The 2020 French Open champion won 11 games in a row to defeat Dart, who came through qualifying.
Dart led 3-1 early in the match but the Pole recovered from some early errors to take the set and didn’t Leo another game on her way to victory.
Swiatek will face Swede Rebecca Peterson in the second round.
