Subdued Simona Halep will lift her spirits with chocolate after absorbing a 6-1, 6-2 defeat at the hands of Polish teenager Iga Swiatek on Sunday at the French Open.
The 54th-ranked outsider humiliated the top seed and former WTA No. 1 in 68 minutes, avenging a 45-minute hammering she took against Halep here a year ago.
But with everything in her game going wrong on a chilly if dry day on the Chatrier showcourt, Halep will do her best to bury the memories.
“I will have a chocolate and I will be better tomorrow,” was the 29-year-old’s immediate solution.
Halep said conditions on the clay were challenging and her game was not up to the test.
“I’m a little bit sad about how , but it’s just another experience, it was cold, it was tough to play, but she played really well.
“I take the match as it was and I will try next time to be better.”
Halep added: “She was everywhere and she hit all the balls very strong. It was a little bit cold and I couldn’t be at my best.
“It was her match today.”
