Swede Mikael Ymer is protesting his innocence at what the national No. 1 called an “unfair” suspension for 18 month for missing three anti-doping tests in 2021.
The No 51 – only Swede in the Top 150 with his brother Elias ranked 166 – revealed his fate in a social media post.
He tweeted that he “fought that charge at a hearing, and was cleared by an independent tribunal of 3 arbitrators in June of 2022.”
An ITF appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) dealt him a legal loss for failing “to ensure his compliance with the anti-doping regulations by omitting to verify his whereabouts (for surprise doping testers).”
Ymer said he was banned “despite never having used nor been accused of using banned substances.”
“Having already been cleared once, and wholeheartedly standing by the fact that I do not feel that the 3rd offence was committed, I find their decision to try me again and subsequently find me guilty, unfair,” Ymer said.
The Swede’s last match was a Wimbledon third-round loss to Daniel Galan. He made a late withdrawal from this week’s Gstaad ATP event as news of his suspension became public.
