Australian veteran Samantha Stosur bade farewell to the Australian Open on Thursday as she went down 6-2, 6-2 to Russian 10th seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova at Melbourne Park.
Stosur received a standing ovation from crowd before departing after a record 20th Open campaign, the most by any Australian women’s tennis player.
More renowned for her exploits at the French and US Open events, where she won in 2011, she is still alive in the doubles.
Stosur is 22nd highest earner in women’s professional tennis history with $27,490,735 in prize money.
She has won six singles titles and 28 doubles trophies, including five grand slam crowns in her 20-year career.
