Stars in lockdown after two positive Covid-19 case confirmed

Players on a charted flight from Los Angeles to Melbourne have been placed in quarantine after two people aboard the charter tested positive for COVID-19.

An email from Tennis Australia, published by the Herald Sun in Melbourne today, informed passengers on flight QR7493, that the Chief Health Officer has instructed them to be “confined to their rooms for the 14-day quarantine period”.

“Unfortunately we have been informed by the health authorities that two people on your flight from LAX that arrived at 5:15am on Friday 15 January have returned positive COVID-19 PCR tests on arrival to Melbourne,” the email reads.

“We know this is not how you imagined your preparations for the AO would start but our entire team is here to support and do everything we can to get your through this.
“You will soon be contacted by our medical experts Aspen Medcal if you haven’t been already.”

The flight from Los Angeles included Victoria Azarenka, Sloane Stephens, Kei Nishikori and Tennys Sandgren, who caused concern this week after being allowed to travel despite previously testing positive for the virus.

One of the affected passengers is believed to be a coach, while the identity of the other is unknown.

All passengers were required to return negative tests before boarding the flight, but two tested positive upon arrival.
