Some players will “definitely miss US” – Kvitova

2011 and 2014 Wimbledon champion and world #12 Petra Kvitova claims some players will “definitely” choose not to travel to New York for the US Open if the current pandemic travel restrictions do not change.

With the US currently recording tens of thousands of new positive covid19 tests daily and a cumulative total of 3.5 million, almost double that of Brazil in second place,  players concerns about the quarantine and entourage protocols are growing.  Kvitova insists those worries will affect some players’ decisions on whether to take part.

Serious doubts remain whether the first Grand Slam Tournament following the enforced pause due to the coronavirus pandemic will be played from August 31 – September 13

If it does go ahead strict safety protocols will be in place including compulsory fourteen day quarantine periods on arrival in New York, and again on return to their home base, making it virtually impossible to compete in both The US Open and the re-scheduled French Open starting on 27 September.

A final decision by the USTA is due before the end of July.
