Italian young gun Jannick Sinner gained revenge over Aljaz Bedene at the Great Ocean Road Open today, beating the Slovenian 7-6, 6-2.

Sinners’ previous encounter with Bedene saw him lose at the 2019 Umag tournament, but this time there was little doubt who would win.

Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, who upset top seed David Goffin in the second round, went down against Thiago Monteiro 7-6(3), 6-3.

Monteiro will next meet local hero Jordan Thompson, who beat Spaniard Mario Vilella Martinez 6-4, 6-4.

Russian Karen Khachanov pushed past South African Kevin Anderson 6-3, 7-6(5) to reach the quarter-finals of the Great Ocean Road Open earlier today, winning 82 per cent of his first-serve points.

Khachanov will play Botic Van de Zandschulp for a spot in the semi-finals tomorrow.

The Dutchman upset American Reilly Opelka 7-6(6), 7-6(4).
