Sinner on song with Montpellier title

Jannik Sinner kept a clean slate as the Italian won his seventh career title on Sunday, taking the ATP Montpellier trophy without losing a set.

The No. 17 has claimed six of his seven honours on hardcourt, with the clay of Umag his other success.

Sinner defeated French-born Maxime Cressy of the US 7-6(3), 6-3 in just over 90 minutes as he took revenge for never winning a match at the event in two previous appearances.

“I tried to hold my serve, which I did,  the winner said. “I’m very happy about the first set.

“The second set was a little bit different. I had a couple of good chances but he then served very well.

“I am very happy I broke him here and then I served very well at the end.”

Sinner is the first player this season to win a title without the loss of a set and the first since Lorenzo Musetti at Naples last October.

The winner will move up three ranking spots to 14th on Monday.
