Top seed Jannik Sinner is taking his progress at the Madrid Masters step by step as a hip injury threatens to derail his progress.
The italian advanced to the quarter-finals with a comeback win over Karen Khachanov and faces a fresh test on Thursday when he plays for the semis against Felix Auger-Aliassime.
But he has played with painkillers this week after suffering the problem in the third round and confirmed his team will make the call on the upcoming match.
“About the decision on Thursday, I will take (it) tomorrow (Wednesday) I guess. Now I cannot say.
“We did a lot of (physio) work; “I still felt it, yes, but the most important part is try to not get worse.
“In this moment and in this case let’s see how I feel tomorrow, if I’m practising or not, and then after tomorrow hopefully I will be ready.”
The Australian Open champion said that if he is not feeling fit he will not take to the court at the Caja Magica against Canada’s FAA.
“If I don’t enjoy playing tennis it’s tough. If I can make it where I can enjoy the match, I play – If not it’s better to not play.”
