Sinner extends win streak with defeat of Struff

Jannik Sinner continued his winning run with his eighth consecutive victory on Thursday, defeating Jan-Lennard Struff 6-4, 6-2 for a spot in the Monte Carlo Masters quarter-finals.

The world No. 2 seeking his fourth trophy of the season after Melbourne, Rotterdam and Miami, is bidding to lift the title in the principality for the first time after reaching last year’s semi-finals.

The Italian now owns 24 victories in 2024 after duplicating his defeat of the German a month ago in Indian Wells.

“He’s a very dangerous player,” Sinner said of his 25th-ranked opponent. “I know it would be really tough.

“I returned pretty well, I can be proud, this match was different than the first (a win over Sebastian Korda).

“I’m happy to be in the quarters.”

The second seed behind Novak Djokovic needed 76 minutes to move into the last eight with 14 winners and 16 unforced errors.
