Sinner, Coric, Dimitrov added to Kooyong lineup

Carlos Alcaraz will face a reinforced challenge as the Spaniard opens his season at Melbourne’s Kooyong Classic after Jannik Sinner, Borna Coric and Grigor Dimitrov were added to the lineup.

The January 10-12 event at the spiritual home of Australian tennis is considered a low-key tune-up  for the first Grand Slam of the season which begins the following Monday.

Local Alex de Minaur is also in the mix, along with former US Open champion Marin Cilic, American Taylor Fritz and Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka.

“With the addition of Jannik, Grigor and Borna, it’s shaping up as one of our strongest fields in recent years,” said TD Peter Johnston.

“I think the addition of the United Cup the week prior to the Kooyong Classic has worked beautifully for us, as players are looking for those all-important final matches in Melbourne conditions just prior to the Australian Open.”

Sinner is coached by Aussie Darren Cahill, who has guided Lleyton Hewitt, Andre Agassi and Simona Halep to the top of the ranking.

Sinner comes to Melbourne with three quarter-final appearances at the Grand Slam last season.
