French Open winner Iga Swiatek will skip next week’s WTA Berlin grass event due to a shoulder injury.
The world No. 1 tweeted out her bad news on Friday, but said she should be fit for Wimbledon, which she will begin without playing a tuneup event.
“Due to a recurrent discomfort I am feeling in my shoulder, unfortunately I need to withdraw from the bett1open in Berlin,” the Pole tweeted..
“I’m sorry I will not be able to play there. I will focus on recovery and rest in order to be ready for Wimbledon.”
Swiatek will be hoping to extend her 35-match win streak when she starts at the All England Club in just over a fortnight.
