Maria Sharapova has purchased a California bolthole amid the COVID-19 resurgence, with the former tennis icon spending USD 8.6 million on a ranch in Santa Barbara.
The property lies just 160-km from her Asian-inspired oceanside base at Manhattan Beach just south of LA.
Five-time Grand Slam champion Sharapova, who retired after the Australian Open, maintains a busy post-tennis life, concentrating her interests in business and her Sugarpova sweets brand.
The former player’s current three-level home boasts amenities including a swimming pool, entertainment area, and bowling alley.
Her mountain ranch is something totally different, though part of its design is heavily Balinese. The 2 hectare compound features plenty of greenery including lawns and a bamboo forest.
The three buildings in the sale include the main house, a second structure and a barn suitable for horses.
While there is no municipal water supply, that small detail is covered by a 15,000 gallon water storage capacity.
