A pair of seeds will clash in the ATP Bastad event on Friday after Alexander Zverev and Wimbledon quarter-finalist Andrey Rublev both advanced in straight sets.
Former Top 10 regular Zverev, now ranked 19th as he pulls his game back from a serious 2022 ankle injury 14 months ago, advanced to the last eight with the loss of just one game against Brazil’s Thiago Montiero in a 61-minute rout.
The German stands an encouraging 9-2 in his last 11 matches on clay; he has reached his fifth quarter-final of the comeback season.
Second-seeded Rublev had to work harder for a win, advancing past Czech qualifier Pavel Kotov 6-3, 7-6(4) in 93 minutes.
Rublev came from a break down in the opening set on his way to the win; he trails Zverev 5-1 in their career series, posting his only win last February in Dubai.
