Despite her Australian Open title this season, Aryna Sabalenka is still struggling as the French Open begins on Sunday.
The world no. 2 behind Iga Swiatek admitted on Friday in Paris that life as a grand Slam champion does not include a free pass on court due to her status.
“When I won in Melbourne I thought that from there everything would be easier,” she said.
“But it’s not like that. – I still have to show my best tennis in all the important events.”
She added: “I don’t think winning (the major) contributes anything here in Paris.
“All the girls are even more motivated against me, they all want to beat me.”
But the newest Grand Slam winner said that her own confidence is growing.
“(The title) has perhaps helped me to believe more in myself – I think I can get more Grand Slam titles.”
