Ruud wins Argentina Open

Casper Ruud came back from a set down to beat local favourite Diego Schwartzman 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 to win the Argentina Open on Sunday.

Schwartzman, who won last year’s Argentina Open, had the backing of a vocal 5,000 capacity crowd and took the first set, but Ruud, the tournament’s top seed, bounced back in style to win on the clay in two hours and 34 minutes.

“It feels very good to have the trophy back in my hands,” Ruud said.

“I think it was a good match overall. Diego played very good in the first set and I was struggling to get the important points.

“I think we were both a bit nervous. I just tried to fight and stay in there the whole match because I know how things can change in a tennis match and luckily, they did my way today.”
