Ruud retains his Swiss dominance with Geneva win

Casper Ruud won his 17th match in Switzerland without a loss as he knocked out JJ Wolf 6-3, 7-5 on Wednesday to reach the quarter-finals in Geneva.

Winning is a habit for the top seeded Norwegian who has lifted trophies at both Geneva and the summer clay of Gstaad for the past two seasons.

Ruud spent 80 minutes in moving through to the quarter-finals, saving two break points as he served for victory and completing the job on his second match point.

The 49th-ranked American Wolf was ushered out on his tournament debut

Ruud’s win came four days after he lost a Rome semi-final to Holger Rune.

“I feel great, it was a good win for me,” ATP No. 4 Ruud said. He is a tough, aggressive opponent.

“I started well with an early break and got one near the end as well.

“”I’m very happy to come through and I’m ready to play tomorrow,” he said at a pre-Roland Garros event which ends on Saturday.

Rune improved to a perfect 9-0 in Geneva.
