Hubert Hurkacz inflicted only the fourth defeat of the year on Andrey Rublev 6-3,6-4 to reach his first ATP Masters 1000 trophy final.
The 24 year old Pole seeded 26th never allowed his Russian opponent time to settle into his game and broke his serve four times.
Coming into the semi-final, fourth seed Rublev had only twice dropped his serve in the whole tournament each time to Seb Korda.
The 23 year old World No. 8 Rublev got off to a slow start going behind 5-1 in the first set before saving five set points to put himself back in the game.
The set then swung back the way of the ATP No. 37 and Hurkacz closed it out after 40 minutes.
Hurkacz sealed victory on his third match point after one hour 28 minutes, firing 25 winners, making it nine wins on the bounce in Florida, having won the Delray Beach 250 event in January.
In his post match interview Hurcacz said “It means a lot, especially after winning a title at the beginning of the year, I had a couple of rough matches, so I’m so happy that I came over and I was still trying to improve my game and trying to be a better player. This is huge for me.”
He will play Italian teenager Jannik Sinner in Sunday’s final
