Rublev beats Schwartzman in Laver Cup thriller

Andrey Rublev came from a set down to beat Diego Schwartzman 4-6, 6-3, 11-9 in Boston on Friday evening as Team Europe took a 3-0 lead in the Laver Cup.

On a day of great matchups this final singles encounter proved just as thrilling as the previous two, as the young Russian showed why he is force to be reckoned with on the world stage, eventually winning the match in third set tiebreak.

Schwartzman had the better of the first set, winning 64% of first service, and winning three break points before Rublev found rhythm in the second with three superb aces and a 70% first serve winning margin.

The third proved decisive, with both players matching g each other point for point before another mammoth tiebreak went in favour of Rublev.

A toe-to-toe matchup was finally resolved at 9-9 where Schwartzman’s forehand error gave Rublev advantage and the Russian’s forehand winner took out the match.
