French authorities are in a race against time to finish renovations to the Roland Garros centre after months of delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pictures released on French 24 TV over the weekend show much of the venue still a building site.

The decade long renovation plan is slowly coming to fruition with a new roof on the flagship Philippe-Chatrier court.

Gilles Jourdain, head of the Roland Garros modernisation project, was confident the courts would be ready on time for the tournament’s start on September 21.

“We are the best at making things look good,” he said.

“No one will notice anything because they will be blown away by the new centre court.”
