Roland Garros could be a question mark now for Djokovic

Novak Djokovic may be forced to hit pause his Roland Garros planning, with the Serb ready to undergo medical tests and scans after his water bottle injury in Rome.

The 36-year-old lost in the Rome Masters third round on Sunday to Chilean Alejandro Tabilo 6-2, 6-3 in 67 minutes and said he felt nothing like himself on court even if light training the day before felt fine.

“Today under high stress, it was quite bad – not in terms of pain, but in terms of this balance.

“Just no coordination.. completely different player from what it was two nights ago.

“I don’t know. I have to do medical checkups and see what’s going on.”

The world No. 1 remained completely in the dark as to his French Open possibilities given his current health concerns.

“I didn’t do any scans or any tests. Right now, I feel like I should do it, so, I will do it and let’s see. Let’s see what’s happening (about the Grand Slam, which begins in two weeks).”

Djokovic recounted his shock after a metal water bottle fell from a fan’s rucksack and clanged him on the head as he signed autographs two days ago.

‘It was a very unfortunate, unlucky situation for me. It was unexpected obviously. I wasn’t even looking up.

“Then I felt a very strong hit in the head. That has really impacted me a lot. I had an hour of nausea, dizziness, blood.

“I managed to sleep okay. I had headaches.”

He added: “Friday was pretty fine, so I thought it’s okay. Maybe it’s OK – maybe it’s not.”
