The Argentine qualifier who carried on into the Roland Garros semi-finals made a winning start on Wednesday in her first match since the highlight week of her career.
Nadia Podoroska, seeded sixth, started the Upper Austrian ladies by defeating Romanian Irina Camelia Begu 6-4, 6-4 to move into the second round.
No. 48 Podoroska is barely a month removed from her Roland Garros run, where she turned a qualifying place into a final four spot, winning eight matches in a row.
Along the way, she upset fifth seed Elina Svitolina and became the first from the qualifying ranks in French Open history to reach the semis.
The player who ranked 131 in Paris was playing for the first time since her soaraway showing in the capital.
Podoroska broke Begu four times to move into a second-round contest with Italy’s Italy’s Camila Giorg, who defeated Sara Sorribes Tormo of Spain 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.
