Petra Kvitova ended a title drought going back nearly two years with a 6-1, 6-2 thrashing of Garbine Muguruza in the final of the Doha WTA tournament on Saturday.

The No. 10 Czech who had won her 27th title in April, 2019, in Stuttgart, dominated in 67 minutes as she broke Spain’s fellow double Grand Slam champion five times.

Kvitova ran her record in the series to5-1 as she doubled down on her defeat of Muguruza in the 2018 final here and took revenge for losing the final here a yer ago to Aryna Sabalenka.

“There was less wind today than in the semi-final,” she said.after defeating Muguruza

“Mentally I was tired after playing in the wind  but today it was not so bad. Maybe that helped me a bit.

“But when you play in the wind you have to play more carefully.”

Kvitova Kvitova finished with 11 winners to 18 unforced errors to claim her fifth straight win over her Spanish opponent.

The Czech lost serve to open the second set but quickly rallied to dominate Muguruza with three consecutive breaks to take victory.

“The break-back in the second set was key,” Kvitova said. “I found the rhythm, kept the ball in the court and put her. under pressure.”

Muguruza had a walkover in the semi-finals when Victoria Azarenka withdrew..

“I took the opportunity to recover after tough matches, But I couldn’t find my game today,” she said.

“It was hard to make her move or do much. It wasn’t my day I guess. I struggled to have a clean game today,”
