Records tumble to stats man Djokovic

Novak Djokovic revelled in his first daytime billing in 1073 days at the Australian Open with a 6-0, 6-0, 6-3 stroll against Adrian Mannarino in the fourth round in just one hour and 44 minutes.

When quizzed about this feat in his on court interview Djokovic replied, “The way I played today, I don’t mind playing in the day, to be honest”

Djokovic last played in a day session at the Australian Open in the 2021 tournament against Frances Tiafoe.

That was the year the Serb claimed his 9th Australian Open victory.

Since that daylight appearance, he had logged 15 consecutive night matches at Melbourne Park before his fourth round match against Adrian Mannarino.

Djokovic’s also attained the milestone of winning 48 sets to love in a Grand Slam.

He is now just two sets away from Andre Agassi’s bagel record of 50, having passed legends Roy Emerson (47), Roger Federer (46), Jimmy Connors (44), Rafael Nadal (44), and Ivan Lendl (42)

Djokovic has now won 32 consecutive matches at the Australian Open, since he lost to South Korea’s Chung Hyeon in 2018.

Djokovic’s has now reached the quarter finals of a Grand Slam for the 58th time equalling Roger Federer as the player with the most appearances in the last eight.
