The injury jinx continued for Emma Raducanu on Tuesday as Britain’s US Open winner had to quit her first match on grass after less than a set at the Nottingham WTA event.
The reigning New York holder was treated with a painkiller and then retired trailing a break at 3-4 with a problem in her side as she played 55th-ranked Swiss Viktorija Golubic .
“I think I pulled something,” she said, calling the injury “an absolute freak”.
“I cannot diagnose myself on Google, I’ll get it checked out.”
The 19-year-old has now quit a match on three occasions (Guadalajara and Rome first round) since winning her Grand Slam title in September.
Raducanu was competing in her first match since going out in the second round last month at Roland Garros.
