Emma Raducanu has chosen not to participate in the French Open Qualifying which starts tomorrow.
Having not been granted a wild card, along with Simona Halep and Dominic Thiem, it is thought that this is a strategic rather than an injury situation, though her management team have yet to confirm.
Whilst she remains as the third alternate for the main draw starting on May 26 in Paris– she is not expected to play the second major tournament of the year.
The Briton, who won the 2021 US Open, is currently 212th in the world having previously reached a high of 10th.
21-year-old Raducanu has not played since a first round loss to Maria Lourdes Carle in Mardrid last month.
Raducanu, who is looking to return to the top of women’s tennis after long-term injury problems, recently said she was “mentally and emotionally exhausted.
