Iga Swiatek made quick work of the three-match win streak of Emma Raducanu, with the world No. 1 dishing out a 6-3, 6-1 victory to reach the Indian Wells Masters quarter-finals.
The world No. 1 Pole shot down the dreams of Raducanu, who could have become the first British woman to reach the quarters here had she won.
Swiatek won a match nearly a year ago over the 2021 US Open champion in Stuttgart.
The last British victory over a women’s No. 1 came in 2017 when Johanna Konta defeated Angelique Kerber at Eastbourne.
Swiatek is now three wins away from becoming only the second woman to defend the title
Raducanu faced a barrage of break points, saving six of 10 while earning two on the Swiatek serve – both saved in the 85-minute victory.
