Belinda Bencic will have an unofficial chance for revenge against Emma Raducanu when the pair mee in December’s Abu Dhabi exhibition on their way to the Australian Open.
Officials at the 13th edition of the event held in the UAE capital are counting on Britain’s teenaged US Open winner and the summer Olympic gold medalist from Switzerland to stir some interest in the preseason hit-out set for December 16-18.
With competitors likely expected in Australia well before the New Year under COVID guidelines, the exho serves as a convenient stopping point from Europe for players.
Bencic fell victim to Raducanu last month in New York as the youngster won a Grand Slam title from an unprecedented qualifying start.
“Since we introduced the women’s match in 2017, we have welcomed some of the biggest names in the game to compete in Abu Dhabi,” organiser John Lickrish said.
“With Emma and Belinda confirmed, this year’s match is set to be the most intriguing women’s match in the Championship’s history. This is not one to miss.”
Both women will be making debuts at the informal showpiece.
“Emma and I played a great match in New York and I am looking forward to another great battle, this time in Abu Dhabi,” Bencic said.
